• Arts and culture center. Miami Beach is paradise for art lovers, as the city serves everything from visual arts to playful Art Deco architecture. There is a large number of arts and cultural events in the city throughout the year, the most prominent being Art Basel Miami Beach, held every December.

  Another integral part of Miami Beach’s identity is its Art Deco Historic District, where there are over 800 architecturally significant buildings that date back between the 1920s and 1940s. The district also has fine examples of Miami Modern (MiMo) and Mediterranean Revival.

• Established LGBTQ community. Love wins in Miami Beach, home to one of the largest LGBTQ communities in the country. They are so deeply embedded in the local culture to the point that they are one of the reasons why Miami Beach is so diverse and welcoming.

  There are many events in Miami Beach that are colorful and exciting, but none as lively as the Miami Beach Pride, a week-long celebration that culminates in a parade through the city’s streets.

• Getting around Miami Beach. Public transportation is heavily used in Miami Beach, with the popular option being the Metrobus, operated by Miami-Dade Transit. The Metrobus not only transports residents within the city but also connects Miami Beach to Downtown Miami as well as the Metrorail.

  There are two airports located near Miami Beach. Miami International Airport is the nearest, roughly 25 minutes away from the city. Meanwhile, the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport is approximately a 40- to 50-minute drive from Miami Beach.
