LAWN CARE TIPS FOR THE SUMMER SEASON

LAWN CARE TIPS FOR THE SUMMER SEASON

Many hours of meticulous lawn care can easily be destroyed in the intense heat and dryness of summer months. Keep reading to learn more about how you can save your lawn this summer.

DON’T WALK ON WET GRASS

Of course, you will want to limit the amount of foot traffic in your yard as too much can cause your grass to die. This is especially true when the grass is wet. Why? Stepping on wet grass can cause the soil beneath to become compacted. Compacted soil prevents air and the proper nutrients to reach the grass roots causing them to die.

CHECK YOUR MOWER BLADE

A clean cut is very important when you are cutting grass. A dull blade can cause the grass to shed instead of cut. This shredding causes the grass to lose its moisture and turn brown.

WATER IN THE MORNING

Check your local city water management website, as the days for which you should mow your lawn is regulated in an effort to prevent over watering, droughts, and excessive use of water. On the days for which it is recommended that you water your grass, water in the morning. The ideal time to water your lawn is between 6:00pm – 10:00am. During this time, it is less likely for the water to evaporate quickly from the summer sun and give the grass time to dry before sundown.

TIME YOUR FERTILIZATION

Avoid feeding your yard when it looks stressed, brown, and brittle. The optimal time to fertilize your lawn is right before the summer months and then again right after.
