PLAN YOUR MOVE IN ADVANCE 

Once you have finalized your move in date, it is important to begin planning your move. Preparation is key. Understand all that entails a home move and begin creating a plan.

 

CONFIRM THE MOVERS ARE INSURED

Since the movers are going to be responsible for the quality transportation of your personal belongings, be sure that they are properly insured. You can ask to see their certificate of insurance which will indicate if the insurance company carries commercial general liability, automobile liability, cargo liability insurances and workers compensation. 

 

CONFIRM THE MOVERS ARE LICENSED

You will want to be sure that you are going to hire qualified movers. Be sure to check if they are a licensed company by searching on the Florida Dept. of Agriculture and Consumer services.

 

COLLECT ESTIMATES

Don’t just commit to the first mover you call. Do your due diligence by collecting several estimates from multiple moving companies to be sure you are getting the best deal possible. Be sure that the estimates include the following information: Name, phone number, address, and state registration number for the moving company, date, pick up and delivery address, itemized list, description of all costs and services provided, and acceptable forms of payment. 

 

MOVING BROKER OR MOVING COMPANY 

Oftentimes, families are unaware that they’ve hired a moving broker instead of a moving company. Though not a total catastrophe, by hiring a moving broker you are greatly increasing the cost of your move. Moving brokers charge a fee to assign your move to a moving company. You can cut costs by hiring a moving company directly to avoid any additional fees. 

 

CHECK FOR MOVING COVERAGE

Review your homeowners or rental insurance policy for moving coverage. 

 

DISCUSS PROTECTION

No matter how careful we are, accidents happen. Be sure to discuss the valuation of your belongings with your mover. Discuss the difference between different levels of protection as ideally, full value protection is what you will want.
