Having fun in Fort Lauderdale

kitesurfing

Kitesurfing is a popular sport in Fort Lauderdale

If you are looking for Fort Lauderdale homes for sale, you will be pleased to know that there is never a shortage of things to do in the area. Fort Lauderdale is a blend of modern attractions, fascinating wildlife, and incredible shows. The county seat of Broward County lies on a 28-mile stretch along the Atlantic coast.

Below is a list of some of the best things to do in the area.

Cruise the Everglades

The Everglades National Park is one of the nation’s most iconic public parks, with saw-grass prairies, sub-tropical jungles, and 1.5 million acres of swamps. Here you will find endangered and rare species including the American crocodile, the West Indian manatee, and the Florida panther. The park is located on the southern side of the state.

While a large portion of the Everglades is closed to the public, visitors can still hike, camp, and even canoe in some areas. Don’t miss the chance to ride on the iconic airboats.

Trek the Secret Woods

The Secret Woods lies on a 57-acre preserve that is a part of Broward County Parks. The area features an interpretive center, a foot walk, and two nature trails. The stunning butterfly reserve, a crowd favorite, can be found at Dania Beach, which is located half a mile west of I-95 exit 25.

Roam the Science and Discovery Museum

At 119,000 square feet, Fort Lauderdale’s Science and Discovery Museum has loads of exhibits the whole family will enjoy. Here, you can get closer to North American river otters and watch them play from underwater viewing platforms. Sharks and grouper can be found in the impressive aquarium, while there are also over 200 animal exhibits that include snakes, bats, and coral reef. You can also learn about space travel at the “Runways to Rockets” exhibit. It is a large museum so make sure you have plenty of time to spare.

Hit the ’blue wave’ beaches

If you are looking at Fort Lauderdale condos for sale, you will probably want one near the “blue wave” beaches. This means that the beaches are certified to be safe and clean. Some of the best in the area include Pompano Beach, Dania Beach, and Deerfield Beach. You can also spend time exploring the beach towns that are dotted along the 23-mile coastline.

Take in a show

When it comes to entertainment, there’s more to Florida than theme parks. In Fort Lauderdale, The Broward Center for the Performing Arts (BCPA) is one of the Top 10 most-visited theaters in the world. People flock here for concerts, movies, Broadways musicals, lectures, workshops, opera, ballet, multi-cultural shows, and more. Some of the world’s best-known artists perform here, while kids will love participating in the live shows. The center also has a variety of programs for both kids and adults, including classes in performance arts such as music, dancing, and acting.
